The River Cities Concert Band recently attended the 25th annual RED CEDAR FESTIVAL of COMMUNITY BANDS - a one day event where bands perform publicly with a discussion following the conclusion of their concert.
ABOUT
"...The River Cities Concert Band was formed under the leadership of James J. Hewitt. In 1982 he formed the band and called it the Otsego Plainwell Community Band as an extension of the Otsego Schools Community Education Department. In 2005 they updated the name of the band to its current name. Mr. Hewitt stepped down from the podium in 2013 and passed away in 2015. He brought in David J. Hubbard as assistant director in 2002 who took over as full director in 2013. The band has 73 on the roster aged from 15 to 92 from a 5-county area! The band's concerts are help in October, December, March and May. All concerts are themed promoted at shows! We make frequent use of vocal and instrumental soloists and bring in the local Methodist Church Choir to share the Stage. Special lighting, slideshows and video enhancements are a regular occurrence as is intermission complete with punch, coffee, and cookies for audiences of 400 to 500 patrons all for a free will donation."
